A redox flow battery is a battery that is different from other battery types. It consists of two tanks filled with electrolyte and a so-called chimney. The laminate consists of several stacked units, each having a frame, a bipolar plate, and a membrane. The number and size of stack units depend on the power output required. The size of the tank determines the capacity of the battery. The fluid in the two tanks acts as a cathode (positive electrolyte) and an anode (negative electrolyte). Just like a regular battery.
